What is the Callan (Direct) Method? It is a fast, fun and easy way of learning English that focuses on improving students’ listening and speaking skills. It was invented by a man named Robin Callan in England in the 1960s.

Who was Robin Callan? Robin Callan was the creator of the Callan Method of teaching English. He had a very interesting life story. He loved English poetry and also loved travel. He lead the Callan School English in 1960.

How does the Callan Method Work? There are 2 different types of Callan Method lesson, which the students will normally take one after the other: Revision Lesson New Work Lesson

The Revision and New Work the Students Will Cover Each Week

Lesson Structure The Revision Lesson and the New Work Lesson last 50 minutes each and follow the same structure. Speaking – 25 minutes Reading – 10 min. Writing/Dictation – 5 min. Speaking – 10 min.

What the Teacher does: The teacher speaks constantly throughout the lesson. …asks questions from a book. …asks the question twice, in case the students didn’t understand it the first time. …continues to speak with you, helping the students speak quickly without translating. …will correct every student’s mistakes make the moment he (she) make it.

What the students do: Try to answer it in full and use the same words and grammatical structure as the question Answer with a negative followed by a positive. Use contractions. They are a part of spoken speech, so, by using contractions, their English will sound more natural. Try to speak at the same time as the teacher
